Adult and couples Therapist

Kerstin Bennett has been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) since 2007 in California and since 2017 in New York. She works with adults and couples through a deeply compassionate, solution-focused approach, offering both short- and long-term therapy tailored to each client’s unique needs. With extensive experience in eating disorder recovery, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, addiction, bi-polar disorder, and relational trauma, Kerstin supports her clients in navigating life’s challenges with empathy and practical strategies.

In her work with couples, Kerstin integrates the principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, providing a structured yet emotionally supportive environment to help partners build stronger, more connected relationships. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), through which she helps clients live authentically and in alignment with their core values. Kerstin believes that emotional flexibility—the ability to embrace and process difficult emotions—can empower individuals to navigate life's uncertainties and live a life true to their aspirations.

Kerstin is currently furthering her expertise by studying Attachment-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR) at the Parnell Institute. AF-EMDR is particularly effective for addressing relational trauma, including childhood neglect, emotionally unavailable caregivers, narcissistic abuse, and the deeply ingrained patterns that can undermine one’s ability to form healthy, fulfilling relationships.

Kerstin’s educational background includes a BA in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, followed by a two-year backpacking journey around the world. She then earned an MA in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and a certification in the treatment of eating disorders from UC Berkeley Extensions. She also has extensive experience working at a partial hospitalization program for eating disorder recovery, mental health clinics and with the forensic population.

Kerstin’s therapeutic philosophy is rooted in understanding and healing, and she is committed to supporting her clients in leading more meaningful, empowered lives.
